Leaf Blast (Pyricularia grisea)

Identification

  • Leaf blast is characterized by production of spindle shaped or eye shaped lesions on leaves with a brownish margin and ashy grey centres.

  • Several lesions coalesce, the whole leaf withers leading to a burnt appearance of the crop.

Management

 

  •  Removal of destruction of debris during the rice free periods drastically reduce the infection of blast.

  • Balanced use of fertilizer help to reduce the blast as it was found that overuse  of fertilizer are shown to increase the blast disease.

  • Resistant cultivor of blast disease IR-20,Jaya,Vandhana, Hira, Savitri, Ratna, IR 36 and Annada.

  • Spray with Hinosan 50EC @ I L per 1000 litres of water.

  • Spray with Zineb( Dithane z-78, Ditahane M-45) @ 2.5kg/1000 litres of water

  • Spray edinophos, Carbendazim @ 0.1% or tricycazole( Beam 75WP) @ 1g/L. at flowering and after.

  • Spray edinophos/ Carbendazim .Fongorene or IBP 48@ 0.1%). At panicle initation stage.

  • Apply edinophos, Carbendazim, IBP-48@0.1%. Delay topdressing of N fertilizer when infection is  seen at pre tillering to mid tillering
